    1.       Establish course guiding ideology and orientation

    The guiding ideology of this course is: considering the theoretical rigor, more want to consider engineering practicability, requires not only master the basic principle of classic, and demanded to know the new theory and new technology.

    Optical fiber communication systems and networks as the basic infrastructure of information exchange is very important for students in information and communication field, considering the knowledge level of oversea students is not very well, the lecture covers some basic knowledge of fiber communication systems and networks. We also focuses on students' innovation and practical ability, we design many simulating experiments for this course.

    2.       Updatethe teaching content

    Teaching content of the course focuses on clarifying the key technologies of optical fiber communication system and networks to solve the main problems with the basic thought and method.On the premise of guarantee the basic theory teaching, and considering the new developments in research fields, we update the teaching contents in each semester. OFC is the world’s largest optical fiber communication and networking conference, we introduce the hot topics of each year OFC and guide students to read OFC papers. In this way, we can stimulate students' learning interest and thirst for knowledge.

    3.       Developan interest in optical fiber communication systems and networks

    For developing an interest of studentsin this lecture, we organize the students visit our research Lab in each year.By demonstrating some basic experiments, the students can learn the knowledgemore lively. We also design some basic simulating programs in Matlab, thestudents can practice the basic theory learned in this course.

    4.       Strengthen the construction of teacher-team

    The course of Optical Fiber Communication Systems and Networks is a traditional course in BUPT for undergraduate and graduate students for about 20 years. Several outstanding experts in this field had took in charge this course in past years. Now our teams has many years of experience in teaching, consists of academic level high old teachers.They pay attention to the development of courses, and thus helps and guide the young teachers. This course is taught by a strong teaching team, which includes 1 professor and 2 associate professors, all the teachers have more 10 years researching experience in this field, and researching interesting of our teachers covers all the field of this course. The age structure of our team is reasonable. The course groups discuss regularly teaching content and methodsand suggest improvements and measures to create a valuable experience, and arrange for graduate students in teaching assistantship, with the assistance of counseling courses, which play a good supplement.

    5.       Establish good teaching conditions and the environment

    All the teachers of this course own research Lab, we have carried many state, provincial and enterprise projects inpast few years. The research Lab is opened for all the students of this course.And we demonstrate some basic and typical experiments for the students, it is helpful for them to understand and recognize the basic knowledge of thiscourse. Basing our research Labs, we supply enough practice teaching conditions of the course work.
